A local park cleanup is a top fall neighborhood event.

Fall is a great time for local events that help you connect with your neighbors and increase your home’s value. By joining area gatherings and activities, you make your home more attractive, build better relationships and camaraderie with your neighbors, and create a sense of belonging. Here are some fun fall events to consider that could enhance your property’s value and add charm to your neighborhood.

1. Fall Arts and Crafts Fair

Any budding artists in your local community? Encourage them to display and sell their work at a fall arts and crafts fair in your area. This event not only promotes local talent but increases awareness about the neighborhood’s cultural identity.

Homes in artistic communities often enjoy increased value due to their unique charm and character. Plus, it’s a great way for residents to connect and network over shared interests.

2. Seasonal Light Tours

Organize a neighborhood home tour to show off everyone’s fall and holiday decorations and lights. Residents can tap into their competitive spirits to create stunning displays. This event not only promotes community spirit but allows homeowners to take pride in their properties.

Parents love to pack the family into the car and drive around looking for free light shows, so inviting your neighbors to showcase their best displays will not only help spread holiday cheer, but also leave a lasting impression on potential buyers. Afterall, a vibrant, well-decorated, and well-lit street is an attractive feature for anyone searching for a new home.

3. Outdoor Movie Night

As the temperatures cool, hosting an outdoor movie night could be a great way to bring neighbors together. Set up a projector and screen in a local park or even someone’s backyard, and invite families to bring blankets, snacks, and beverages like hot chocolate and warm apple cider. This gathering not only creates a cozy and fun environment, but also strengthens community connections. Properties near areas that host regular social events are often more desirable, adding to their market value.

4. Neighborhood Clean-Up Day

Organizing a can significantly boost curb appeal in your neighborhood. Rally your neighbors to help clean up parks, plant trees, and remove litter and graffiti from common areas. A clean and well-maintained neighborhood attracts potential buyers and can lead to higher property values. Plus, it instills pride among residents, making your community a more inviting place to live.

5. Thanksgiving Potluck

As Thanksgiving approaches, a community potluck can be a great way to celebrate this season of thanks, while enjoying a good meal with your neighbors. Invite them to bring a fall or winter meal that they love to share with others. Warm pumpkin soup, chili, and pumpkin bread are all popular options. This ‘Friendsgiving’ allows neighbors to bond over a hearty meal while also highlighting a strong sense of community which can be a significant selling point for your property.

These fall events are not only fun and engaging, but also serve as an investment in your community. If you’re considering putting your home on the market, highlighting these strong community ties can resonate with potential buyers who visit during an open house. In fact, these seasonal gatherings could be the key to generating multiple offers on your property.

The summer months are coming to a close, meaning fall is soon upon us. Some may be disappointed over the end of fun in the sun, while others celebrate cooler temperatures and seasonal delights such as Halloween and pumpkin spice lattes. No matter your stance, your lawn and outdoor spaces need some maintenance. Here are some tasks to check off to prep the outdoors for fall.

Mow Until Your Grass Stops Growing

Don’t put your mower in the shed yet. Continue regular mowing until your grass stops growing past its standard height. Once it has stopped growing, perform a maintenance check before putting your mower away.

Maintenance can depend on your mower, so consult your manual. However, you might need to consider sharpening your blades, changing plugs, and changing the air filter. If you have an electric mower, you might not need to do as much maintenance, but check your manual for instructions. You will want your mower in good working order when it’s time to use it!

Aerate and Fertilize

If you don’t know what is, it involves removing soil plugs from your yard to let air and water access grassroots. During the summer, the soil compacts, causing the grass to be thin or brown. When you aerate, you let valuable nutrients return to the grass where it belongs. We recommend using machinery designed for aeration or calling a professional.

Additionally, we recommend that you fertilize your lawn. During the winter, your grass might not get the proper nutrition it needs. Purchasing fertilizer high in nitrogen and applying it after you aerate can help your lawn last.

Seed Your Lawn

Summer could have killed your grass, so seeding your lawn during fall is smart. With seeding, it would be best if you overseeded your yard to fill in any bare or thin spots. Overseeding works well for fall because the ground is warm and the nights are cool.

Look for seeds resistant to droughts or other challenges that could come during the fall. In addition, you might want to rent a power seeder to get the seeds on the lawn properly. One route you can take is contacting a professional who can take care of the seeding and other lawn maintenance.

Keep Watering

While fall brings forth less evaporation and your lawn will require less watering, you will still need to do so. Give your yard an inch weekly and run any sprinklers you have until the freezing temperatures hit. If you have irrigation systems, flush them so your pipes do not freeze.

Prepare for Leaf Removal

You love the fall because playing in the leaves reminds you of great times in childhood. However, as an adult, you’ll soon realize the trouble that comes if you don’t remove leaves as quickly as possible. Leaves can trap moisture and prevent your grass from getting sunlight. As you probably have guessed, both are disadvantageous to a lawn and could possibly damage it.

Rake leaves as soon as possible or use a leaf blower. The sooner you can rake all leaves and remove them from your lawn, the better. With that said, there is an alternative to removal that you might want to consider.

Try Mulching Your Leaves

One thing you might want to do with your leaves is to mulch. involves mowing or shredding them into many pieces. When you mulch, you turn your leaves into compost, which significantly benefits your lawn. It can be less hassle than raking them, particularly if you have a more expansive yard or physical issues. Consider mulching to save time and energy.

Clean Your Gutters

While looking at your lawn, look to your gutters nearby. Gutters can become clogged with leaves and other debris that could have gathered during the summertime. If left unattended, the gutters may overflow, or the debris could rot inside.

Therefore, cleaning your gutters should be a regular occurrence with your other lawn maintenance activities.

Don’t Forget Pest Control

One mistake you may make approaching the fall is assuming that the pests will disappear due to the cooler weather. While you’re not going to encounter as many mosquitoes and flies, many pests that live in the ground will damage your lawn. Grubs, ticks, and chinch bugs are three examples of this. Of course, the pests you’ll experience will depend on where you live. Do your research, treat your lawn accordingly, or contact a pest control company.

Put Away Lawn Furniture

If you have outdoor furniture or other lawn essentials, you will need to take steps to prevent damage from the elements.  For smaller pieces that don’t do well in cold or wet weather, start moving it into storage. For larger items, consider waterproof .

Get the Decorations Out

Where did you stash your holiday décor? As fall approaches, it is a great time to bring out your Halloween and fall decorations.  If you need updated décor, look for early bird discounts for fall decorations, particularly at hobby stores. This tip isn’t a requirement, but what better way to get in the fall spirit than decorating?

It’s All About Timing

While you don’t need to complete all these tasks in a time crunch, be mindful of timing when checking maintenance items off your list. For example, if you wait too long in the season, it becomes too cold for fertilizer to work. On the other hand, if you aerate too early, you can develop weeds.

The answer to the right time to do something can depend on where you live. In general, you should start doing everything in this article once summer temperatures begin cooling down. However, you may want to consult your local lawn care professionals to determine the right time for your location.

In Conclusion

Fall is a fantastic time of year, but it does require you to do some maintenance for your home to survive what lies ahead. Plan a list of chores you need to do, and then get on them. If you don’t have the time or desire to tackle it on your own, there are always professionals available to help get your lawn and outdoor spaces into tip-top shape for fall.

With fall around the corner, you are happily saying goodbye to the bugs of summer, but don’t be fooled: there are still plenty of creepers sticking around for fall.

One of your top priorities at the beginning of the new season should be insect and rodent control. As the temperatures change, pests will be looking to migrate to warmer temperatures. The last thing you want is for these tiny creatures to find their way into the confines of your home. Fortunately, there are many ways to prevent these unwanted guests without emptying your bank account. Here are a few tips for keeping falls pests out of your home.

Seal Cracks and Holes Outside of Your House

Bugs such as ants, beetles and roaches can easily fit in between even the smallest crack in a wall. You can fill in these gaps with acrylic latex caulk, which can be purchased for. Not only will the caulk keep the bugs out of this house, but it will keep the cold and wet weather out too. Roaches and other insects look for warm, moist areas to live in during the colder seasons, making the use of a durable caulk more important for added protection. For larger gaps in your home’s infrastructure, you can cut mesh screens into the necessary sizes. The use of an extra-strength adhesive will help keep the cover in place.

Maintain your Landscaping

You can find bugs crawling around in leaves, soil and mulch. It is important to make sure these common outdoor items don’t pile up during the fall season. These items will often hold moisture which will attract insects and will make it easy for them to hide. You will also want to keep all trees and bushes near your home appropriately trimmed. Any branches or bushes that come in contact with your house give insects easy access to explore the walls and windows of your home. It is also suggested that you keep any firewood Firewood is an ideal resting place for small critters and an easy way of transportation inside. Only bring in what you need!

Properly Store all Food Items

Not only will bugs and small animals use your home as an escape from seasonal changes, but they will use it as a source of food as well. It is important to not let food sit out for extended periods of time. Keep anything edible inside plastic airtight containers or bags. You should also consistently clean your kitchen and dining areas. Even if your food is kept away properly, crumbs and residue from your meals will attract pests and let them know exactly where food may be. This may lead to them making more.

Higher an Exterminator

Although hiring an exterminator can be pricey, it may be incredibly beneficial. If you come across a nest or infested area in your home,. A pest control professional will be able to gauge the severity of the infestation and give advice on how to solve the situation. An exterminator will also be able to remove pests with the proper technique, using certain pesticides and tools that are safe to your home and family.

Moving during the fall season can be a difficult task. You schedule fills up with work as well as kids’ school schedules and extra curricular activities. As busy as you may be, there are ways to make moving during the fall less stressful.

Negotiate the price of moving companies

While the fall is a busy season for you, it is the ideal time to search for a moving company. Moving companies are busiest during the  summer months, and as their business slows in fall their prices become more competitive. Gas prices also typically drop in the fall. These two points are primary factors to negotiate a cheaper price. Also, do your homework: take the time to research different companies, their services, and the base prices for their assistance.

Setup your utilities ahead of time

You want your new home to be move-in ready. Some utility companies take several days to get a service started and these services are essential for living comfortably. Especially during a season where temperatures begin to change, utilities like electricity and gas are a necessity to make your home move-in ready.

Keep your current property clean

Trying to move out of your house will become a hassle with the elements of autumn blocking your way. As the leaves begin to fall, you will want to begin sweeping or blowing leaves off of your walkways before your move-out date. This will also minimize the risk of injury while moving. You may own heavy items that are difficult to move around even with the help of others. By clearing out a path from your house to the moving truck, you are helping to take away the risk of slipping and falling.

Only pack what you don’t need

Making a move to a new home does not happen overnight. The process of moving can take weeks or even months and you will have to decide what items you can’t live without. But while it is smart to pack ahead of time, there are some things you need to keep out to ensure you’re comfortable right up to the move. For example, there are things in the kitchen you use every day (i.e., plates, cups, silverware) and things you don’t (that fondue pot you received as a wedding gift). Pack those things you seldom use ahead of time – or give them away if you don’t really need them – but keep out enough to be able to function as usual.

Moving during the fall can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Make a game plan and consider what fall moving tips will make your life easier.
