In many cases, these will include both recent historical information (such as tax returns) and information as current as your most recent couple of pay stubs.

It’s important to safeguard any information you provide, especially your social security number. If you can, provide documentation in person or via fax rather than electronically or via e-mail, which are less secure methods.

If you should exit the transaction before the loan closes (by selecting another lender mid-stream, for example) you’ll want to check with your original lender about either getting your documentation returned or inquiring about their document and data destruction policy.
